The Dalits of India

mission_photo

Last night a group had the privilege to meet two ladies from India who are pouring their lives into the Dalit people in India. The Dalits in India are part of the caste that receive the most discrimination. Most cannot read and are seen as backwards. Operation Mobilization saw a need among these people and have taken some bold steps to empower them socially, economically, physically and spiritually. The women share about their specific work with the women in the Dalit community. God is using this ministry in mighty ways to help the lives of the Dalits and most of all to share the Gospel. Even though Christians still experience persecution these Dalit people are responding to the Gospel and God is transforming lives. The six critical areas of concern that this ministry targets are health, education, social and economic empowerment, training, law awareness and spiritual empowerment. We were grateful for the opportunity to hear from these women. It opened up our eyes to how God is moving and how much He loves this group of people.  For information on Operation Mobilization in India visit http://www.omindia.org/.

If you are interested in learning more about Apex’s involvement in India or desire to get involved in ministry in the 10-40 window, please contact Amy Meredith at amy.meredith@apexcommunity.org, or come to Introduction to Missions on Sunday March 15 at 9:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall!

Women’s empowerment among the Dalits of India

What an opportunity that Operation Mobilization has brought to us!

On Thursday March 5 at 6:00 p.m. you’ll have an opportunity to meet with two women leaders who represent the work of women’s empowerment among the Dalits.  Here is the bio for one of the ladies, Sushma:

Sushma Parmar is OM India’s North India leader for women’s empowerment ministries among Dalit and Christian women within the Good Shepherd Community Church movement.  The goal of Sushma’s work is to build self-worth among women, enhance their practical and ministry skills, and help them in bringing up a christian family.  Sushma is a native of the North Indian State of Gujarat, India, and she earned her Bachelors of Science degree and her Bachelors of Education degree from Gujarat University.  Sushma and her husband Moses have two teenagers.  Moses is OM India’s North India Field leader.

We’d love to have you and your house church join us – a light dinner will be provided.  Please R.S.V.P. to Amy Meredith at amy.meredith@apexcommunity.org.

Where in the World: Zambia!

Be prepared to be inspired!  A team of several House Churches from Regions 1 and 5 took their second trip to Zambia in January to visit the ministry of Christ Hope International, and what an experience!  House church plants, HIV/AIDS programs in the schools, and baptisms in the back of a flooded pickup truck…God is at work!  We’d love for you to join us on March 13th at 6:30 p.m. to hear about the work God is doing through some amazing brothers and sisters in Zambia.   Hear stories, see pictures, and learn how you can be involved.  Please RSVP to Amy Meredith at amy.meredith@apexcommunity.org if you plan to attend.

What are “Where in the World” nights?  These are casual evening get-togethers to learn from Apexer’s who want to share about their experiences on the missions field!  Everyone is welcome and no commitment or admission fee is required!  We’ll share food and drink native to the nation or people group of discussion and give a short presentation on the current ministry.  There will be plenty of Q&A, and if you’re interested we’ll describe how you can be involved!  This is a great event for House Churchs to attend to find out how you can be involved in global Kingdom work with Apex Community Church!
