2011 Passion Weekend (Easter) at Apex
Here are the plans for this year’s Passion Weekend! Our house churches are encouraged to get together and pray on Thursday the 21st focusing on “Jesus as the Servant.” (Staff hopes to provide some suggested prayer plans for this). We’ll then be having a 6:30-8:00pm Good Friday gathering at Apex focusing on “Jesus as the Sacrifice” (see Apex Kids note below). Lastly, our normal weekend gatherings (at their normal times) will be the culmination and celebration of “Jesus as our Savior!”

Apex Kids will have normal classes on Easter Saturday and Sunday; however, there will only be limited kids ministry for Good Friday. If you want your child to participate in Apex Kids during the Good Friday service, limited spots are available… please register online ASAP by clicking the link below:

songs from the weekend of Feb. 26/27
- Cannons written by Phil Wickham
- In Christ Alone written by Stuart Townend & Keith Getty – our arrangement of this song was inspired by the version done by Veritas Church. We tweaked it a bit to make it fit us, but it was driving, up, and rockin’.
- Rock of Ages written by Augustus Toplady, Thomas Hastings, and Bethany Bailey – we gave this old hymn a very smooth folk-rock feel. A little bluesy, a little artsy…very emotive. One of our team members, Bethany, wrote a great chorus for it that just brought all the verses together so well.
- Breathless written by our own Duke Boles – we added a little “ambience” to this one as well as a fun little bounce to the bridge. You can stream or download this song for free here.
- How Marvelous (I Stand Amazed) written by Charles Gabriel – we’ve made our own arrangement of this song. Lot’s of droning chords and building chord progressions, with a very anthemic chorus.
songs from the weekend of Feb. 19/20, 2011
- Come Thou Fount written by Robert Robinson – one of our team leaders, Matt, gave this a musical overhaul. The melody is still sung the same, but instrumentally, it had an indie rock feel. Lots of moving, delayed guitars and ambience.
- Happy Day written by Tim Hughes
- Always Forever written by Phil Wickham
- Revelation Song written by Jennie Lee Riddle
- Everlasting God written by Glenn Packiam
songs from the weekend of Feb. 12/13, 2011
- You’ll Come written by Brooke Fraser
- I Still Am written by our own Phil Wing
- We Will Run written by Lisa Gungor
- Rescue written by Jared Anderson
- If You Say Go written by Diane Thiel
songs from the weekend of Feb. 5/6, 2011
Since we started in 2002, Apex has always loved to sing…and this weekend I was reminded of that all over again. Whether it was a hymn from 100 yrs ago or key song from a year ago, Apex was shouting and it was awesome!
Here are the songs:
- From the Inside Out written by Joel Houston – this song is normally pretty chilled out in the beginning and then ramps up to being pretty big at the end. We reversed that a bit. We started it big and rockin’ and then ended it pretty soft. It was a fun twist.
- The Solid Rock written by Edward Mote & William Batchelder Bradbury – our arrangement of this song was inspired by the version by the Veritas band from Veritas Church in Columbus. Check them out if you live in the Columbus area!
- Be Thou My Vision written by Eleanor Hull & Joel Davis – our arrangement was based on the version by Ascend the Hill.
- None but Jesus written by Brooke Fraser – you can hear our version of this song on the Apex LIVE cd.
- Because of Your Love written by Phil Wickham – you can hear our version of this song on the Apex LIVE album as well.
songs from the weekend of Jan. 29/30, 2011
We decided to strip down our sound quite a bit for this weekend. It’d been a couple months since we’d had an acoustic set so it felt like a good time. 2 voices, a keyboard, an acoustic guitar, and a couple of hand drums – that’s it. We really leaned on the family of Apex to lead the singing…and they did. It was great!
Here are the songs:
- Your Name written by Glenn Packiam & Paul Baloche
- Mighty to Save written by Reuben Morgan – you can hear our full band version of this on the Apex LIVE cd.
- Wonderful Maker written by Chris Tomlin & Matt Redman
- Majesty written by Martin Smith & Stu G
- Lord of Lords written by Brooke Fraser
songs from the weekend of Jan. 22/23, 2011
- Here is Our King written by David Crowder
- In Christ Alone written by Stuart Townend & Keith Getty – our arrangement was based on the version by Bethany Dillon & Matt Hammitt.
- We Are Listening written by Jeremy Quillo
- How Marvelous (I Stand Amazed) written by Charles Hutchison Gabriel – we created our own arrangement of this old hymn.
- A Mighty Fortress written by Christy & Nathan Nockels
