2011 Passion Weekend (Easter) at Apex

Here are the plans for this year’s Passion Weekend! Our house churches are encouraged to get together and pray on Thursday the 21st focusing on “Jesus as the Servant.” (Staff hopes to provide some suggested prayer plans for this). We’ll then be having a 6:30-8:00pm Good Friday gathering at Apex focusing on “Jesus as the Sacrifice” (see Apex Kids note below). Lastly, our normal weekend gatherings (at their normal times) will be the culmination and celebration of “Jesus as our Savior!”

Apex Kids & Students
Apex Kids will have normal classes on Easter Saturday and Sunday; however, there will only be limited kids ministry for Good Friday. If you want your child to participate in Apex Kids during the Good Friday service, limited spots are available… please register online ASAP by clicking the link below:

Comparing Doctrines of Religions with the Gospel of Jesus

Chad Osborne, Director of High School Ministries at Apex, teaches in the following four recordings. Throughout the Summer of 2010, Apex High School students have been going through a series studying the doctrines of other religions and comparing them with the gospel of Jesus Christ. This content is great for students of Jesus of ALL ages.

The purpose of this is to strengthen students’ understanding of biblical doctrine while studying some unbiblical doctrines that have been formed and are relevant in our culture. The goal is not to encourage students to become intellectually arrogant and to look to start arguments, but rather to equip and enable them to have a respectful dialogue with people from other faiths in hope of sharing the good news of the gospel. None of this content is meant to be an attack on people for their particular beliefs, but it does call into question the validity of certain doctrines and how they were formed.

Apex Kids and Students: Parent Help Team (PHT)
Dear Parents: We are honored to minister to your children at our weekend Gatherings. We are glad to contribute to your efforts to “grow” your children spiritually- a partnership we willingly invest in and prepare for every week.
To enhance that partnership we are creating the Parent Help Team. The PHT includes all parents of children/students from Birth to 8th Grade who DO NOT CURRENTLY serve within Apex Kids-Student Ministries. Apex leadership is now requiring that you or your spouse serve in one of the following ways:

Guides:
Register and escort visitors to proper rooms-areas from Check-in desk
6 times a year or 4 times in one month

Gatekeepers:
Provide information and security in and around children/student hallways.
6 times a year or 4 times in one month

Helpers:
Assist teacher/leader in classroom or ministry area.
6 times a year or 4 times in one month

Inn Keepers:
Help clean rooms and sanitize toys
6 times a year

Registered Nurses:
Available during Gathering if needed
6 times a year

Why are we now requiring that parents who are not serving help?
1) To maintain and enhance a “Growing” environment that is consistent.
2) Provide needed help to those who are more fully committed to this area.
3) To more fairly involve families benefiting from Apex Kids Student Ministries

Go here to register, in the coming months a new church management system we are installing will also bring a new Kids/Student check in system with it. For security reasons, your child will not be in our system unless you have signed up to serve.

To all of those volunteers who are currently serving . . .
Dear Volunteers: Thank you for ministering to Kids/Students at our weekend Gatherings. We appreciate your contribution to the spiritual growth of our families and enjoy working with you on a regular basis here at Apex.
To acknowledge your consistent contribution we are identifying and organizing you as part of Apex Kids and Student Ministry Team. (AKSM) Very simply you are the people that serve our families on a regular basis.

East Asia Trip

The blog write-up I’m about to share with you was written by a leader of the East Asia missions trip.  This team was sent by apex and consisted of several female students and a couple of leaders.  Reaching the nations…here is their story.

-From Melanie Lane, Leader of Trip, July 31, 2009:

A team of 5 female students and 2 leaders arrived back from East Asia on Sunday July 26.  They had the opportunity to go to a region where 71% of the people had never heard the Gospel of Christ.  This region is located in a closed country, where it is illegal to share the Gospel. Every day the team was able to teach the resident students English and by investing in the students’ lives doors were opened to build relationships with the teachers.

East Asia 1

One of the avenues for growth in this area is house churches.  It is not safe for Americans to go to the existing house churches because their presence would draw a lot of attention to the local believers and put them in jeopardy.  Therefore, one of the primary roles that Americans play when going to this area is teaching English to the younger generation.  The younger generation is very receptive of Americans, and they want to learn English since it is viewed as an asset to a region if more people speak English. Teaching English opens doors for the Gospel of Christ to be shared.  It is amazing that the doors are open to share with young people because as part of their culture, after they begin to earn income, they begin to take care of their parents.  The parents then begin to depend on and respect their children.  Children carry a lot of influence on their parents.  There are many stories of young people coming to know Christ, and then their parents come to know him.

Story from the trip:   One night we were having a Bible Study in our hotel room with 3 locals. After studying Ephesians 2:1-10, Sarah, a local English teacher, confessed that she wanted to give her life to Jesus and begin growing to know more about Him. We saw the look of surrender in her eyes!  It was a beautiful moment.  But before that moment of surrender in her life, a few things had been going on; several local believers had been sharing the Gospel with her, the previous team had shared with her about Jesus and given her a Bible, and many people were praying. We were just being obedient to sharing the Gospel and sowing seed.  We were just one small part of the picture the Holy Spirit was painting in her heart.

Please be in prayer for our team as we are adjusting to being back in the states.  Even though the trip is over the great commission still applies to our lives.  And the things that our Father taught and convicted us on are not to be left in a different country. The journey of enjoying Christ continues…

For further information about this trip, please contact Melanie Lane at melanie.lane@apexcommunity.org.  For further information about how you can become involved with Apex Missions, please contact Tab Green at tabatha.green@apexcommunity.org.

We look forward to hearing from you!
